LAHORE: Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani had approved payments worth Rs 350 million for select advertising companies in violation of government rules, on Wednesday.
According to sources, Gilani had directed the Ministry of Information to make the payments to advertising agencies. The orders are currently with the Accountant General of Pakistan.
There is no available record that the government owes any amount to the said advertisement agencies.
Sources also said that Rs 14 million from the fund will be paid on claims that have been declared bogus by the relevant government departments.
The notification from the Prime Minister also states that the current payments cannot be made a precedent for the future.
The Public Accounts Committee of the National Assembly has taken notice of the report and said that it will investigate the matter.
